I have a 2011 3500hd Silverado with the factory class v hitch and 2" adaptor and it has a lot of play with my Curt drop hitch. What have you guys done to fix this? There is a little play with the adaptor in the hitch and a little more between the Curt and the adaptor but it adds up to quite a bit...

My class V is actually a 2.5 inch receiver that I need for my extension when I tow my boat behind my slide in camper. When I pull my work trailers with my 2" hitches, I have to use a sleeve to reduce my class V down to 2". If this is your situation, that sleeve is about $7.00 on ebay. Some play will be there regardless...

The play doesn't hurt anything... I just live with it.... The only time I notice it is when installing the drawbar.... If yours is banging a lot you likely have very little tongue weight.

Ayuh,..... Ditto,.....

I start gettin' scared when there Ain't any slop,....

That usually means the draw-bar is rusted Solid in the receiver,......

If, as smoke mentioned, you have very little tongue weight, you risk banging the hitch around enough to pull the coupler off the ball. Also, trailers tend to sway all over the road when they have low tongue weight. Move your boat forward, add some weight up front, something like that. I moved my winch mount up, moving the boat forward 4 inches, and added a spare tire on the nose of the trailer to counter the added weight of a kicker on the back of the boat. My trailer would bang up and down all the time if I hadn't. Hard on the bow tie loop as well.

I agree it does not hurt to have play but it is annoying when I tow my empty utility trailer. I solved that problem by adding 2 set screws in receiver. I drilled and tapped the receiver on the side and bottom for a 3/8 bolt. I have a jam nut on each bolt to lock it in place after I snug it against the drawbar.
