Re: Hockey fans?

In Canada we were weaned on hockey growing up.
It may not be as big as it once was, but it is
still considered our national sport.Personally
I don't play any more. And I also lost alot of
respect for the game and its players the last
time they had a players strike.I still follow
the game but I lost a lot of my passion for it.
GO FLAMES GO!!

I enjoy watching Hockey, though I know little about it. You get 60 minutes of action, unlike football and baseball that take 3 hours to provide about 30 minutes of action.

I became a NorthStars fan when I lived in MN and this season am really enjoying the Stars, who followed me to Texas. :D

I am a huge fan of hockey. I play roller hockey 2-3 times a week. Getting ice time at a decent hour in my area is nearly impossible.
I'm proud to say I've been a hockey fan since the Red Wings were known as the Dead Things.

Me with Lord Stanley's Chalice

SHARK FISHING

On a tour of Florida, the Pope took a couple of days off his itinerary to visit the coastline on an impromptu sightseeing trip. His 4X4 Popemobile was driving along the beautiful shoreline in an area where Canadian tourists typically visit. Suddenly, there was an enormous commotion heard just off the headland. The Pope drove closer to see what it was.

Upon approaching the scene, The Pope saw a man in the water wearing a Montreal Canadiens jersey, struggling frantically to free himself from the jaws of a 25-foot shark.

At that moment a speedboat containing three men wearing Toronto Maple Leaf jerseys roared into view from around the point.

Immediately, one of the men took aim and fired a harpoon into the shark's ribs, immobilizing it instantly. The other two reached out and pulled the Montreal fan from the water and then, using long clubs, beat the shark to death.

They bundled the bleeding, semiconscious man into the boat along with the dead shark, and then prepared for a hasty retreat when they heard frantic shouting from the shore.

It was the Pope summoning them to the beach. After they reached shore, the Pope praised them for the rescue and said, "I give you my blessing for your brave actions".

The Pope continued, "I had heard that there was bitter hatred in your country between the fans of the Leafs and the Canadiens, but now I have seen with my own eyes this is not true. I can see that your society is a truly enlightened example of true harmony, and could serve as a model on which other countries, like this one, could follow".

He blessed them all and drove off in a cloud of dust.

As he departed, the harpooner asked the others, "Who was that?"

One answered, "That was his Holiness the Pope. He is in direct contact with God and has access to all of God's wisdom."

"Well," the harpooner replied, "he doesn't know a thing about shark fishing. Is the bait holding up okay, or do we need to get another one?"

This is an old one and the names change regularly but I still find it amusing.

Patrick Roy, after living a full life, died. When he got to heaven, God was showing him around. They came to a modest little house with a faded Colorado Avalanche flag in the window.

"This house is yours for eternity, Pat," said God. "This is very special; not everyone gets a house up here."

Patrick felt special, indeed, and walked up to his house. On his way up the porch, he noticed another house just around the corner. It was a 3-story mansion with a bright red and white sidewalk, a 50 ft. tall flagpole flying an enormous Detroit Red Wings flag, and in every window a Red Wings logo.

In the front yard was a sign that said, "Welcome to Hockeytown."

Pat looked at God and said, "God, I'm not trying to be ungrateful, but I have a question. I won three Stanley Cups, more awards than I can remember and I have more wins than any other goalie in NHL history."

God said, "So what do you want to know, Pat?"

"Well, why does Steve Yzerman get a better house than me?" Roy whined.

God chuckled and said "Pat, that's not Steve Yzerman's house silly."

"It's not?" Roy replied.

"Of course not," God said. "It's mine."

GO WILD! If you’re from Minnesota hockey is in your blood. It was very painful when the Northstars moved south because of their owner Norm Greed. I never thought I would follow the professional game that close again, but then here come the WILD my hope in pro hockey in this state is restored. Hockey fan until the end. St.Paul Athletic Club 1915 – 1926, Minnesota Fighting Saints 1972 – 1977, Minnesota North Stars 1967 – 1993, Minnesota Wild 2000 -???? NHL WHL AHL IHL

Re: Hockey fans?

I know people in my neck of the woods with repeitive strain injuries caused by continual jumping on and off of the Canucks bandwagon. Most are on right now but a couple of bad games will turn that around all right.

But they are playing well this year. I'm mostly worried that they peaked too soon and won't show up for the playoffs.

Re: Hockey fans?

You guys may get a kick out of this. When a hockey team was being formed here in Mobile, AL where there were probably only 10 people who had ever seen a hockey game, the local paper ran a contest for the name. One of the names that caught on and wound up getting a lot of votes was "Hicks With Sticks".

Re: Hockey fans?

Just last saturday night the Toronto maple leafs lost by a score of 9-0. Thr toronto goalie was so upset that after the game he tried to kill himself. He went downtown and jumped in front of a Bus.
Luckily the Bus went between his legs.

Re: Hockey fans?

it is the custom to sing both Canadian and National
Anthems prior to the game in the traditional US
and Canadian hockey towns around here.
During a recent Montreal Canadiens game, the home
crowd acyually boo'd when the National Anthem was
played??? R U KIDDING????
Toronto Maple Leaf's fans were very supportive
and cheered loudly :D
guess it's not a far jump from French to French
Canadian.
I "used" to be a big Habs fan. not any more...
how the heck did you guys elect a frog PM?
you should let the French susceed (sp) so you
don't have to be so embarassed!

Re: Hockey fans?

The French Canadians really do think they are in
France. It is illegal in Quebec to have English
reading signs, and the people there will only
talk to you in French. Their embarrassing behavior
at the Montreal game is Typical French thinking.
Hope you noticed the rest of the country's
reaction to this childish French response. The
French are only concerned with themselves and
their right to be French.

Re: Hockey fans?

Something tells me that if the Quebecers were to try a seccession(sp) vote now, that it would pass with 90% of the Canadians voting in favor.

You guys are brutal, especially the one about the bus between the goalies legs. :)

Don Cherry is a heads up tell it like it is
kinda guy.Thats what has given him character
and defined him in this hockey world. He is in
trouble again for his comments, but we love him.
