Hoist canopy

Hello,

We have a Shorestation hoist, and the canopy tore in some recent wind and is unusable. We are shopping for a replacement, and I was wondering if anyone has advice on colors. Dark green or blue are options, but I'm concerned that they may attract more heat and show more bird droppings than light colors. Any thoughts or experiences you can share?

Also, has anyone ever used a hoist without a canopy? We have a boat cover and are wondering if using just the cover and no canopy might be feasible. Pros? Cons? We lost our last boat when it was in the hoist and the whole thing flipped in a huge wind storm, so the idea of no canopy to catch the wind has some appeal after that, but I'm guessing it's better for the boat to have a canopy under normal conditions?

As long as you properly maintain the top the color shouldn't be a problem. As to the company you should go through I recommend calling Shore station and seeing what they recommend. Depends on the conditions if you dont want to use a canopy, i recommend it though it looks nicer and less wear and tear on the boat cover.

As it turns out, most people on my lake have Floe lifts and of course canopies as well. Green was the base price canopy color, then blue was a bit more money and now they are offering a tanish color. If you move up to their new lifts that tilt up to accommodate not having to lower your tower, they have more contemporary colors such as grey with maybe a red stripe. Generally, most chose the green to blend in with the trees in the background but now i'm seeing more and more blue and a few of the tanish color. They have a high wind canopy that is supposed to help in the even of very high wind. I have green and have no issues with heat build up and no birds have targeted my canopy to perch on. I can't imagine not having a canopy over a boat for which the boat lives on the lift.
