my boat started leaking and when i pulled it out of the water i noticed a little stream of water coming from bottom side. apparently the previous owner had drilled thru one of the compartments under the seat and drilled thru the hull. i had seen this place before but being a new boat owner just thought it was a place that had been hit. it had little cracks in the gel coat and i didn't pay to much attention to it. evidently whoever drilled thru the hull just put a little sealant over the hole. when i looked close at the hole there was no sealant in the hole they just put a little over the hole to cover it. i have filled the hole with 5200 sealant hoping it will get me thru til the end of summer when i can have the fiberglass redone. my neighbor says that i shouldn't put the boat back in until i have the fiberglass fixed. he says that water could get in and expand the fiberglass. is this true? i thought the sealant would prevent this.

CPUBud right on with quick fix but I would drill one size larger hole tape over the bottom side and fill with resin. (Or ream out same hole so resin will stick)
Then you could later on repair and blend the cracks where original drill went through hull.

Depends on your feelings

Luck ya'll

I wouldn't rely toomuch on your neighbors advice - on this and perhaps other stuff. 5200 will last a lifetime and Marine Tex will last forever - - take yr pick.
