Hole in Manifold Riser/Elbow....

Greetings

Upon reassemlby of my manifold and riser, I noticed a hole through the internal wall of the riser/elbow. The hole is closest to the manifold connection and not the exhaust bellow. I suspect this maybe the culprit to my milky oil.

If not, can this riser/elbow still be used or should I look for something new to replace it?

If I'm needing to replace it, does anyone have any suggestion?

The mercruiser is all original. It dates back to 1967. 4 cylinder, 153 cu in, 120hp.

Thank you in advance for providing feedback,

there is no fixing that hole, at least not permenantly

you should be able to find a new replacement for that quite easily, either merc or sierra, have you looked here on iboats??

Thanks for the reply. I actually bought one from a marine parts company out east. It should arrive on Thursday. This weekend is looking great so far. Will be out on the lake testing. Wish me luck!

How does your manifold look? It would be a good idea to pressure check it before bolting everything back together and getting back out on the water.

By the looks of the riser you should be planning to change your manifold too.
But the cause of your milky oil might not be this hole. The would allow water in the cylinders, and a possible hydrolock situation.

When was the last time you changed the head gaskets? You might want to inspect that too.

Also, just to rule out piston rings being bad and to check health of your engine, you might want to do a compression test (both dry and wet). This is a farily easy and simple procedure (plenty of videos in youtube) that can help ensure your engine health stays good.

LG.

Re: Hole in Manifold Riser/Elbow....

Thank you for the concerns. However, my manifold, head and block have all been disassembled, pressure tested and reassembled with all new gaskets/seals and rings.
It was I that found the bad riser after the fact, not the shop that preformed all the maintenance. Thats awhole nother story.

I should be good. The new riser assembled just perfect. Everything is ready to go for Saturday and Sunday testing. I'll update in a few days.

Thanks Again

Finally, the lake test is complete. I took it out today and had success. No milky oil. The motor ran quite well. A little adjustment here and there, and away I go. Now I can complete the restoration of the 1967 Starcraft Holiday Deluxe. Sure looking forward to next season.

Thanks again for all your help.
