NEW BOAT...HOLE IN WELD...IT LEAKS...Will they weld it at factory for repair or patch it with apoxy?...Found the leak...was thinking it would be livewell but it was not....filled boat with water....leveled boat....drip drip drip.....small hole....but fast drip....is this common for new aluminum boats to have a small pin hole in weld? How would you suggest they fix it or would you just fix it on your own?

Re: Hole In Weld

Do Not Repair it Yourself !!! You could void any warranty you got on the hull. Get in touch with the people you got it from and let them worry about it. Tell them any "glues" will not be acceptable.

Mark the hole and take it back. Tell them to fix it or replace the boat. All there going to do is take it back in there shop and do a touch up spot weld. It wont take them more than a few min to fix, that is if they are equipped to fix it on premises. If they have to send it out tell them you had plans to use it this week and you want a loner boat. That should get a good laugh.

I will be taking it to Triton repair center in Nashville......I should expect them to weld it?! The hole is very small but allows lots of water to come in on boat. Is this a big deal? Should I be getting a new boat or just let them fix what I have?

Re: Hole In Weld

Please help me out on how I should have this problem fixed? I am sure they are going to want to use an apoxy or glue...is this not the best way to fix? Are there pro's or con's in how they fix my aluminum triton? Is this common for new aluminum boats? It is the weld in the middle bottom section of the boat...I'm not real happy because of the two hour round trip I will have to make twince plus the down time of not having the boat which is a month old to me next week...

No holes in a new boat isn't common but it does happen, noone is perfect.

As stated DO NOT TOUCH IT, if you do ANYTHING to it you void your warranty, get with your dealer and have them fix it and it should be welded, I don't know many dealers that would epoxy a leak in a boat.

I have welded aluminum for 22 years and as I said noone is perfect, they probably just missed it at the factory or it developed after it was checked.

It really isn't that big of a deal repair wise and you should be able to set it up to be done while you wait so you don't have to make 2 trips, if it is repaired with anything but a weld I would not accept it btu I would be suprised if Triton jerked you around.

Sounds like peroscity to me... which means the dealer should take care of it. That just a poor quality weld. Not a missed line. You could have it fixed VERY easy at a local welding shop... maybe 10 minutes to grind it out and put a small bead(30 bucks) on it but I'd go through the dealer first. Like others have said you don't want to do anything to void your warranty if you don't have to...

And for the record weld is always better then epoxy.

Re: Hole In Weld

Just have the dealer agree to pay for an experienced aluminum welder. I'm sure you could locate a local welder that is more qualified to weld and fix that boat than the factory welder is. I have seen many aluminum outboard powered boats crack around the transom with heavy or long term usage so get used to it and ready to deal with it..
