Re: hole repair help?

You need a small grinder and some mat also, I'm not sure about the "cloth" you have, is it actually boat cloth, or are you using cloth as a generic term for fiberglass.

A 3" spot will need a different type of repair than a 1/8" spot and depending on the exact issue, the repair technique may vary.

Pics will help in getting a more accurate answer.

Hello kybasser..

A 3" hole is by all means vague..( do you mean finished hole with bevel ) ?

What comes up in your search as being not satisfied ??

Kinda simple m8.. Grind out your repair with proper bevel and glass it with appropriate lams ( grind out all delam and replace ).

Why not re-gel for finish ?

What Boat are you working with ?

Re: hole repair help?

sorry I redid link one pix shows the largest holes where old controls passed thru. other holes are scattered about and smaller. The cloth came from autozone also it is a woven fiberglass fairly coarse . I'm concerned about backing the hole. if it were drywall i'd be in business... I will repaint as looks are of little concern boat is a cheap easy large 74 glastron 176 swinger done on the cheap.. if i ever get time i may do an on the cheap 6 yr planned use boat.... lots of pix just not uploaded yet.... thanks

Re: hole repair help?

Hello again m8..

Good news ..and bad news...

Good news first you say.. okies :)

1. Those 3" holes on the inside.. ez.. grind and bevel about 1" around the hole ( its prob only 1/4" thick ). Acetone inside.. double duct tape inside .. tear up some 2" mat circles and poly lam the hole from outside..sand and prep, paint as desired.

2. Interior small holes.. slightly bevel the hard edge and backtape. Fill with DIY Glass putty.. sand and prep.

Now the bad news..

That gouge that you show has some cracks in the gel all the way around the visible damage..showing there was impact . There is really no way to tell how you would approach this until you grind/chase that damaged glass out. expect at least a 16x9" spray. your cracks may only be in the gel..but Its hard to say.. ( Im surprised that nobody else saw that ;) ).

Yd.
