Hole Shot vs. Speed

I have a 24 pitch prop and am trying to understand the effects of a prop pitch on skiing.

So is the the 24p a top end prop and a 17p a powerful hole shot prop?

Or is it the other way around?

Your right, a 17 will move the boat 17" per revolution (in theory) so it is a lower ratio. Better holeshot but less top speed. Dropping to a 17 from a 24 is a huge jump though. Do a web search for "boat propeller calculator" and plug in the numbers to get an idea of the top speed of various pitches.
