The old Holesclaw trailer that my 1961 Custom Craft Sea Ray is sitting on and also original for that boat will need a lost registration applied for. It should not be a big deal since my grandfather gave me the boat and was the owner since new but both the registration for the boat and trailer are misplaced now so it's a little extra paperwork.. Anyone know where the vin might be? Trailer should be around a '60-'62 vintage Holesclaw. I checked the tounge high and low for it but cannot find it.

Ayuh,.... Odds are the original vin # sticker is Loonnngggg Gone,....

NYS usually don't care, so long as the paper trail is "In Order",...

I've got 'bout a 1/2 dozen wagons 'round here, 'n only 1 has it's vin # still in place,...

Re: Holesclaw trailer vin location?

Problem is, I don't have a reg for the trailer.. My grandfather found a registration renewal on the boat dated 2004 so at the very least he can use that to get a new registration for the boat which could then be transferred to me.. Lost registration on the trailer would be no big deal if I could find the numbers because I know the paperwork needed, vin trace ect.. Possibly, the DMV can trace it back. trailer was last on the road in 2001ish tho.

Doesn't the renewal form from 2004 have the VIN on it?

ETA: Nevermind...I see you were talking about the boat registration.

Mine is a metal plate on the starboard side of the tongue. The serial number is stamped and about the only part still readable. Mine was attached with two screw rivets and was a bear to remove for tongue mods.

Got some info from DMV. They can look it up with my grandfather there and as long as it is still in the system a new registration can be obtained which I could then transfer. Otherwise, the trailer was painted so I may have to take some navel jelly to the tongue to clean off the paint and locate the numbers.. Needs repainted again anyway.

Re: Holesclaw trailer vin location?

Well. This was easier than I thought it would be. I finally realized that a title my grandfather had was for the trailer. He couldn't remember what brand the trailer was and I thought Holesclaw because it looked like it and was told that is what many Custom Crafts were sold on ( possibly true, possibly not ). Originally he told me he had the title for a 1973 Tennessee trailer, and I figured that could not be it. I was scraping the paint off of the end of the hitch drawbar where a Vin should have been when it dawned on me that the roller setup was not a Holesclaw.. I peeled off a decal that was painted over on the fender, and under it was Omaha Orange, so I thought it was very close to a TeeNee Trailer color.. i got that trailer title from my grandfather and it was for a 1973 boat trailer with a manufacture code of TENN, probably an abbreviation of TeeNee. The colors also matched and the weight was what the CC would be on the trailer aprox.. so it must have been the right title.. Now have a titled and tagged trailer issue free. Got the boat done too after 5-6 forms. Had my grandfather right there at the DMV so I got them all in 1 shot..
