I've searched and read many posts about this carb, but can't seem to find the answer I'm looking for.

I've got a 2007 5.0GL-H with a Holley model 2300 carb. The one with the caps over the idle-adjustment screws in the metering block. I hear its a proprietary volvo unit through holley.

My metering block is cracked, and the mating surface at the fuel bowl is corroded. Tried to salvage both by 'resurfacing' the mating surfaces. The carb works great, but after my third attempt at rebuilding, it still leaks fuel. At the minimum, I need a new metering block and a new fuel bowl.

I see options for the a replacement metering block, but I can't seem to cross reference any of them to the specific sub-model of the model 2300 used by Volvo-Penta. Cannot seem to find the fuel bowl? Are these parts available or am I doomed to buy a new carb?

I now live in Trinidad and Tobago, but am visiting family in the states in two weeks. I really need to arrange shipment of these parts soon, so I can return from that trip ready to get the boat back in the water.

Thanks for the help!

Re: Holley 2300 Replacement Parts

You might have to replace the entire carb. Get it through Volvo. You could contact Holley and see if the metering block and bowl are avialible. Metering blocks are not one size fits all as they contain the power curcuit orfices, emulsion tubes, air bleed orfices. There are a couple of numbers on the air horn of the carb, one is a Volvo number and the is a Holley number.
The metering block gasket areas have raised areas that pinch the gasket, refacing the block will remove this and the gaskets often leak.
FWIW. That holley is flow rated 500 cfm which is just about the perfect carb size for a 5 litre engine spinning at 5000 rpm. If someone tells you to put a 4 barrel on, you won't see any improvement.

Re: Holley 2300 Replacement Parts

Just an FYI. Holley rates 2bbls at 3HG of vac and 4bbl's at 1.5HG of vac, so the 500 CFM carb is about 350 CFM carb if your comparing it to a 500 CFM 4bbl..

As long as the part you need is not a marine specific part, Holley should sell repair parts. The 2300's are current production

A 5 liter spinning 4800 rpm with 80% volumetric efficiency, will flow 338 cfm

I know a 5.0L doesn't need much and that many engines are over-carbed. I just threw that out there with the 4bbl comment. I agree, there is no more power in 2 extra barrels. Not in this case anyway

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I'll just go ahead with the new carb.

I ordered a rebuilt from flyingfish carburetors and it saved me a few bucks. I still had to do a little adjusting on it, but getting it going wasn't too painful. My carb was in pretty good shape, so I got my core charge refunded when I sent mine back.
