hollow bolt on VP 280 outdrive?

what is the hollow bolt on the upper unit of the VP280 outdrive for? its totally rounded off and i'm not sure if its something i'll need to access very often? thanks

If its the forward bolt on the starboard side of the top cover, that is the vent for when you fill the drive.

Buy a new one

My guess is. It allows gear lube to get to the top bearing. Agree that you need a new one.
