I just bought a home on the bay with a 180' dock. There is power for the boat lift and jet ski lift but nothing to charge the batteries for each. What do you recommend?

Recommend getting in touch with a licensed electrician in your area.... shore power near water is nothing to play with.

Had you asked a question that indicated a bit of electrical knowledge you would probably get a good answer.

In response to your question as asked, I must second the opinion of midcarolina because water, electricity and lack of understanding can lead to a quick death.

Welcome to iboats!:welcome:

Since there is already power at the dock for the lifts, it may be just a matter of a licensed electrician tapping into the existing circuit.

Oh trust me - I am not a DIY kind of guy. I am a very good CPA that knows his limits but I like to know how things work. Have had boat at marina for 10 yrs. Plugged into shore power. I get to marina on Friday, check engine oils, unplug boat and go. leave the mechanical stuff to the experts. Now I am going to keep boat at my house and (long story) said hmm how do I "plug" the boat into shore power....

The hard expensive part is getting power to the dock. Sounds like that's done. I would imagine it should be very easy to tap off what's there. But I'm a diy kind of guy.

Call around get some quotes. It may still end up costing $250 to have someone do it, but that's not really bad.

Ayuh,.... Agreed,.... If Power is already out to the lifts, addin' outlets shouldn't be to big a deal,....

Probably a couple of hours time of a good Electrician,....

As long as you are having it done, install a quad outlet, 4 sockets. You can never have too many.
It will add less than $5 in parts to the project.

As long as there is a sub panel at/near dock... so a dedicated gfci circuit can be added seperate to the lift power it should not
be a big job.Of course this all assumes the original work was installed correctly.

I am a Master electrician and I would recommend that you call and get someone to look at it and give you a quote, last thing you want is problems or worse yet someone getting hurt.

I also use a CPA to do my taxes, the same firm for over 25 years, they are worth every penny!
