Has anybody ever made a test tank, other that a 55gal. drum or such?

I've seen one at my local marina. It's basically a sheet metal box about 4' tall and it has an enclosurer on the back to keep prop wask down to a minimum, with a 2"x10" bolted to the front for a transom.

I seriously thinking about making one. Just to make my life a little easier.

Many a workshop has made one. If the cover to stop washes is made removeable/on hinges, getting the motor in and out is a lot easier.

Remember to fit a drain valve near the bottom, preferably with a standard garden hose connector.

I've even seen one on a pellet to make it mobile.

Hi Shaffer
Look around at several tanks first. This will give you a better idea of what you want to build. It will probably be easier to and less expencive to convert some allready existing tank. My shop tank has a stove pipe on the top of it to collect exhaust gases. This connects to a fan. This way I can test inside. For a portable tank, I cut two 55 gal drums and welded them together, to make an oval shaped tank. This works well for I\Os and large outboards (to a point). Hey, if your going to get serious about this, you might as well design a hoist with it.
