They've told me I can't have my 19' BR in my designated parking spot. Supposedly I have to keep it out on the main street outside the court, where someone could just walk by and mess with it. Don't even suggest a boatel, etc...I can't afford that.

join the crowd. can't keep mine anywhere in the community. you could always move. also, marinas sometimes offer cheap storage on their lot during the summer month, and you just pick up and trailer when you want. good luck-

Your best solution, Chris, is to move to a neighborhood that is boater/fisherman friendly.

An alternative is to find a buddy who lives in a civilized environment and will keep your boat for you.

Good luck. :)

Re: Homeowners ass-ociation is giving me grief

I know, I'd love to move out of this &$#^ area. The problem is I work on the boat all the time just to keep it running, so having it out on the street or at a friend's house would be problematic.

I was thinking about taking a poll with all the townhouse owners in my court, asking if the boat is 'offensive'. Seems like the majority would outweigh the couple of self-appointed nazi's down the street...

You should have read the agreement you signed when you moved in. Taking a pole won't help if anyone is agianst it. Your only hope is to move.

Is there a meeting to discuss rules of the community? My boss lives in a private subdivision, there is a yearly meeting to discuss rules and stuff like that.

He was telling me 2 years ago, they lifted the ban on go-carts and 4-wheelers in the subdivision, because the majority of the oweners owned one and wanted to use them on the private road.

I would go talk to your neighbors, and all that agree with you, ask them to atend the next planning meeting (as I hope you have them, or it's just a dictatorship)

It's a total dictatorship. All I know is I get these 'nastygrams' from some anonymous person telling everyone in the court about my boat not being legal. Without anyones permission they even decided to re-pave the parking lot at a cost of $33,000 and up our dues. Grr.

Dictatorship?? Hardly.

Somewhere you signed a document agreeing to abide by the ass. covenants. If the boat situation is not covered in the covenants, you may have a case.

The best way to solve the situation, is to get elected to the board. That way, you can do anything you want.

Oh, wait, that's starting to sound like a dictatorship, after all. ;)

Good luck.

chris in va, there's an old saying, "if you can't beat em, join um". You could try to round up some support and run for the next election for the board of directors, then you might have some luck getting this changed, remember, every person on the board has thier own pet projects, it goes like this, "you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours". This is how politics works. ;)

But, that's the problem. There's no 'elections' that I'm aware of, after living here 4 years. No voting, no say in anything. It's like being told what to do by someone 3000 miles away.

Ok, I made headway. Myself and two other friends marched over to the president's house tonight for a chat. Seems that no one has gone to the 'court meetings' in the past 2 years so she stopped having them. Instead, she sends out the nastygrams and bills...and wonders why no one cares.

July 9 we all sit around and talk about the issues, including my boat being in my parking space. Hopefully I won't have to park it out on the (dangerous) street.

if they let you do it then they have to let everyone do it.. your neighborhood would look like a junk yard in 6 months......... if you cant afford to keep the boat where it should be kept, don't own one..........

Re: Homeowners ass-ociation is giving me grief

i feel your frustration.
i had my trophy parked on the street in front of the house. no one said anything- i was 1 of 5 that had it that way.
i only did it cause ive watched the others for years with no problems. so hey why not.
then i get this nice nazigram from the county deputy who is assigned this area, telling me that i can only have my boat parked in the street if its connected.
so i make copies and cruise the neighborhood for 2 days, no one else seems to have done anything but me.
i kindly put the copies i made in each one of their mail boxes with my # to call me so we could get together. no calls.
turns out that i was the only one in the subdivision to get one because the president of the civic club lives at the end of my street.
-
i kept my boat hooked up, like i was told- but i was the only one. they sent the fire dept out to measure the clearance for the trucks, police everytime i unhooked it to switch vehicles- to make sure i reconnected.
then i started finding lighter burns, gouges, & the last was one big long scratch starting at the front of my bronco to the back of the boat <street side>.
-
i ended up moving the boat <girlfriend complaining> but the other was the motivating factor.
to this day there are still 3 boats left unhooked 1 being a 24ft pontoon. but neither is on my street, so the dictator doesnt sea it unless he drives the area.
-
there is no doubt i was singled out. GF wont let me file a complaint for fear of reprecussions from the civic club.
so i know how you feel. i now have to drive 30 miles to work on my boat- the contry road i have to drive is very dangerous.
good luck to you!!!

If you notice where chris lives, will tell you all you need to know.

He lives in what is known as the communist state, and for good reason.

Just read his post.

The state of Va. is out for the all mighty dollar, however they can get it, be it from their own people or from people from another state.

After 22 years over the road as a truck driver and having put many a mile through that state, I feel for you chris.

I hope for the best for you and am glad I live where I can park my boat/s where I want to.

Thanks Spinner. Northern VA really is pretty bad about that. I hope to be moving soon.

I geuss I got lucky.
I didnt check the covenants in the neighborhood I bought in.
It looked like a nice area so I bought.

Luckily If I need to park on the street I can.

I always keep her(the boat) parked in the yard.

No restrictions.

At least no one has complained.

Chris, I didn't mean to come down so hard on you, you just need to get out of those townhomes. all of them are alike. No one really has their own space except for the inside.
although, I bet they do take care of the landscaping for you...
