Honda 15 4 Stroke - No Spark

Have been out enjoying the Easter break in my boat when the engine died without warning. It has not started since. While fuel has been a problem before, this was quickly discounted. Checking the spark plugs revealed that there was no spark from either plug. The plugs are new too.
We located another coil and electronics black box and tried them, without success... Have also checked for shorts in the wiring, kill switch circuitry, etc.
That would seem to leave the timing(?) and exciter coil to be the possible problem.

Q: Do these components often fail?
Q: Is there anything else that I should look at?
Q: Will a oil pressure switch failure stop the engine from starting?

JS2, there's a first time for everything, huh!

Sailor, is the little red tab inserted on the tiller control (for the kill switch)?

I almost ran a battery dead by not having it installed correctly.

I wish I still had my old manual, I would look up the schematic. don't know on the oil sensor.

I had a Seloc manual, they sell them at most NAPAs and also boat places.

Re: Honda 15 4 Stroke - No Spark

Thanks for replies. On the kill switch question, the engine has the tiller removed, as it is centre mounted multihull yacht. With this, the kill switch has been removed, replaced by a external control and key start!

I have detached the related wiring from the external controls to isolate the problem. This I feel is OK, looking at the wiring diagram in the owners manual.

From the doco, kill switch circuitry works on: Kill - Closed circuit, Run - Open Circuit.

At least on Honda's 15's...

Would I be right?

-------
Did not know that Honda's ran forever either... I must admit as the new owner of this 4 year old unit, it has received no respect in its role in this cat... There is quite a bit of corrosion apparent already! This includes the metal protrusion from the timing coil ... Should the lug on the cam pulley brush the/ make contact with the timing coil, or does it merely have to come near it?
