Honda bf35 no spark

This all started when I degreased my powerhead. I tried not to get any water or anything in the electronics but i figured wtf... it spends its life in water. It was running fine until I cleaned it.

This is where I'm at...
-checked for spark with a spark tester and...my finger.
-disconnected the kill switch
-disconnected the remote control harness and turned the motor over by using a jumper between the starter circuit.
-disconnected the tilt sensor.

I'm not too familiar with honda and have never worked on a four stroke but I've read that the electronics are pretty durable and rarely fail. Please help and let me know if I'm doing something wrong.

BTW... no spark on any cylinder. What should I check?

Re: Honda bf35 no spark

I have a DVA if you have ideas. I found a cut in the control wire between the console and the motor where four conductors were severely corroded. They were black with yellow stripe, gray, red, and green with a black stripe. I cut and spliced the wires but still no spark. The black/yellow wire at the motor was showing 3v before and now shows 13.

Is there a way to bypass the controls completely like I tried originally to try to narrow it down a tad?

Re: Honda bf35 no spark

Thanks everyone but it was the CDI unit.

This is what I tested...
bf35 40 45 and 50
Exciter coil dva reading while cranking should be around 205v or running it should be 209v. Mine shoved 214v. Your DVA may show slightly higher or lower but as long as it's not way off you should be ok.

The pulser coil should be 3v cranking and 7v running and mine was 5v cranking.

The CDI to coil should be 100v cranking and 180v running. Mine was 80v on the top cylinder, 5v on the middle, and 0v on the bottom.

Hope this helps somebody out... It would've saved me a ton of time!
