2000 honda BF15A

how tight should the propeller castle nut be when putting the prop back on?

and should I use a stainless cotter pin or a steel pin

owners manual says just how to replace prop

Manual for my '06 BF20 (basically the same lower unit as yours) says the following:
- 'apply marine grease on the splines (drive shaft)'
- 'torque prop nut to .7 ft/lb' (yes, that is .7 ft/lb - not a typo)
- 'if cotter pin cannot be installed, tighten the nut additionally until the cotter pin hole is accessible. Do not exceed the max torque of 25 ft/lb.'

When I put on my prop, I just snug the nut very, very, lightly (few ft/lbs).

Manual recomends use of a SS cotter pin. May be able to find one of these at a good local hardware store.

The previous advice was perfect.Do not use anything other than stainless steel for that pin.
