does anybody know if it is possible to convert a 2002 25hp honda w/elec start & charge from tiller to remote? is it easy or does it require lots of modification? are the parts expensive?

Re: honda tiller to remote conversion

I think Hondas web site has the parts to do this conversion. Does your 25 come with the tube for the cable already? Mine does and it is a 2005. YOu may want to check it out with y our local Honda dealer. I called mine about getting a tilt/trim feature added to my 25. To do that will cost me about $700 for an after market add on ( not a Honda original part). I may do that after this season.

Honda has some kits to convert romote motors (2004 and newer) to tiller, but has no kits to convert a tiller to remote! Sell your motor and buy the one you want.

This topic has been discussed many times before. Unfortunately, OBMD is correct. Honda is one of the few manufacturers who DO NOT have a tiller to remote conversion.
It can be done, but you're going to be approaching $2k to buy all the componants separately. Unless you just "love" the engine, its cheaper to replace it with a remote version.

They do make kits for the smaller engines, but last time I checked, about 6 months ago, the largest they had was for a 15 I believe. Check the website, maybe they have added another kit in the meantime.

Re: honda tiller to remote conversion

I did mine by buying the linkage parts/grommets off of this website for my motor, but in the remote version. all of those parts were about 100 bucks. i already had a console off another boat. I used that wheel with a QC2 helm. teleflex cables and steering tube standoff, becasue my motor had no tube. after looking onlin and ebay i saved tons of money by not buying at the first place i found. my cables were 20 bucks x 2 plus steering cable/ helm 120bucks plus standoff was 70 bucks. took the starter switch off my tiller and wired it to the console. i also bought the shifter box for 100bucks on ebay. that has the kill switch and lanyard on it. ran that to the same plug that i unplugged from tiller. add ot up and throw in some blood sweat and tears and there you have it. anyone who says it cant be done is not mechanical.
