Hi Folks,

Im rebuilding my inline at the moment trying to cure a water ingestion problem.

As I had to remove the pistons from the block for the machinist to do some work I have decided it is best that I hone the cylinders before refitting the pistons so that the rings re-seat.

I had between 140 and 135psi on all cylinders before tear down and would like to ensure that the compression is still good when I put it back together.

I have a 3 leg cylinder hone that is brand new with 240 grit stones. I have gently honed cyl number 1 using WD40 and 2 stroke oil as a lubricant. This has exposed slight vertical scoring on the bores that I never knew was there. It is very slight and I was unsure as to whether I should be concerned by this or not. Should I continue to hone until its gone?

Any advise on the honing process would be greatly appreciated, how long should i hone for etc.

Warm Regards

Stan

With out a precision hone you can't true the bores, so just hone them enough to seat the rings and hope for the best, it works on most engines

No more than to deglase the cyl.

And I'd use a ball hone to deglaze - not a giant brake-hone.

-W
