Welcome to the forums Vantoo!

I believe the hood seal is still available from your local John/Rude dealer. Bout $37.

If not, try SeaWay Marine or TwinCity Outboards. Both have sites.

As an alternative, I did this for my '80 Johnson 75 (quite similar to yours). I bought a few feet of 5/16" fuel hose - enough to cover the circumfrence of the base of the hood. I then took a fresh fine tip X-Acto knife blade and placed it in a bench vice, tip up. The tip was about 1/8" out of the vice, enough to slice one side of the fuel line as I drew it over the blade lengthwise, thus slitting one side of the tube. I was then able to open up the tubing and slide it over the lip of the cowling all the way around. I held it in place with some OMC Adhesive M, but I'm sure regular silicon or the like would work. Looks sharp in black, too, and only cost me a few bucks.
- Scott

Hey Chinewalker,
I tried the fuel hose but found it too stiff. I then tried a vacuum hose and it worked perfect. Thanks a bunch for your help. Saved me about 30 bucks. Rick
