I've got a small in-line bildge fan I want to put it up side down and hook the pos up to the + side of the coil so It will come on when the engine starts. Is this safe or should I find some place else to hook the +? Thanks in advance.

wouldnt that be pointless since you want it running a few minutes before starting the engine?

hook it up to the battery and a switch.

no I've got a blower for that already. I want to install this cause I have a double hatch engine compartment and I just want to add a little air in there while I'm running.

First you "exhaust" air from the engine bay -- you don't push air in. Next, DO NOT connect anything to the ignition coil. If you took a voltage measurement might find that the coil does not run at 12 volts after the engine starts. There may be a ballast resistor in the line that cuts down the coil voltage (assuming you have a points style ignition). There are plenty of places to pick off +12 volts when the key is in the RUN position.

ok thank you. I'll unhook it and matter of fact take it out and put a clear tube back on.

Most I/O boats have 2 hoses connected to the inlet vent (louvres pointing forward) and 2 on the discharge vent (pointing back). Your factory blower is in line with one of the latter.

At speed, the louvres will typically cause enough air to ventilate the engine compartment.

If you feel you'd like more air volume in there, you *could* install another bilge blower in the 2nd exhaust vent, then power it through a relay, through a fuse, to the battery. Run the relay coil from the purple +12v wire in the engine harness.

Before you go to the trouble, why not place a thermometer in there to see how hot it gets?
