So I repaired the lower leg of my 1979 strendrive i/o 1st problem I cant seen to hook the cables up when i shift the shifter into forward it go's backwards and when you shift into reverse it go's forward?
2nd when in rev i have a ton of power and when in forward i have to rev it up high to go anywhere what did i do wrong ?

). I guess I'd be looking at the way the shift assembly is installed (I assume you're referring to the plunger mechanism in the drive itself) and make sure that's correct. Then maybe look at the remote control and be sure all cables are correct there (does it move the lever on the shift converter box correctly?). Next (actually first), I'd make sure your shift cable didn't get crossed inside your shift converter box.
