hooking up new throttle and shift cables

I just ordered the new Teleflex 3300 cables for my Carolina skiff. The boat has a center console with a Quicksilver controller. The cables I purchased supposedly work with 1985 Mariner 25hp outboard I recently put on the boat. It had a newer 15hp Mariner engine that fit nicely but did not have enough get up an go. I'm hoping the cables on order will replace what I have that does not work. I can get it shift gears correctly but the throttle cable is out of the adjustment tolerances.
Has anyone had any experience lately changing the outboard and keeping the boats controller and getting everything hooked up correctly?

Grady94, when you connected the cables to the engine, did you adjust the trunion nut. the throttle on the engine it self should be against the throttle stop, the you adjust the trunion nut so that you do not have to move the engine part. to make the connection. the same cables should work, unless Brunswick, change the throw (distance the cable moves) on the controller.

Re: hooking up new throttle and shift cables

I have tried every possible combination. Even switched the cables and the throttle cable doesn't quite reach with the trunion nut adjusted all the way to one side. I have to pull the throttle away from the stop to get it to connect. It does move to full forward and full reverse but the butterfly valve in the carb hardly opens at full throttle. This a 1985 Mariner 25hp that is either made by Tohatsu or Yamaha which I have read elsewhere on this site needed a certain type of controller? Have you heard this? This is not the controller that came with this motor.

grady, post this in the merc, mariner forum. like i said the controller may not have enough throw. can you get number of controler.

just a thought, have you tried to manually run this motor. the idle stop may not be adjusted properly. someone could have set it up with cables and never set the stop. it could be possible.

Yea I have run it manually and it runs good. Revs up fine. Water pumps works good. It looks like though that those 3300 Teleflex cables have more adjustment in them as far as throw. The ones I have now are close. And maybe like you said the stop may have been adjusted to work with the other controller, I think that was what you were getting at. That threaded bar with the two ball pivots does this does it not or is that just adjusted at that screw for a little more throw? I'll check my manual. I will also post on the website for Mariner.
