May sound simple, but... how exactly do you run straight from a gas can? I'm having afuel related issue, and I need to confirm or rule out gas as the culprit. I've got a Mercruiser I/O, and I'm thinking I'll connect a line at the intake side of the FW separator. My has to do with the fact the the fuel problem only occurs at higher speeds, and if I just stick the hose in the gas can, I'm worried it may fall out during the trials. I've also noticed a correlation between 'rough' water (large wakes/waves) and the problem. That makes me think sediment in the tank. I've confirmed no water in the tank, so that's not it.

Anyway, so how would you connect to the can securely?

i just unscrewed the line straight out of my regular tank and put it down in a SECURED gas can and started her up and ran. Just dont make the same mistake I did and make sure ya got plenty of gas cause I stranded myself. Good Luck!!

I would use a portable tank instead if you have access to one. Less worry of fumes and possible spillage. Just hook up your fuel line to the quick disconnect.

mike has it... also EVERYONE has access to a 6 gallon fuel tank. You go to walmart or wherever is convenient and hand em $20 for a new one.... It just isn't wortth the risk to use a gas can on the water

Re: Hooking up to a Jerry can

Turns out I had an extra 6.5 gal tank I forgot about. Bought it when one of my local West Marines was closing for 75% off (paid $8 I think). Really had no use for it when I bought it other then for a spare, and forgot about it.

The following is for future questions regarding my original question;

I disconnected the fuel line from my built-in tank at the pick-up, and it fit right onto the portable 6.5g tank. Didn't need any fittings or anything, just screwed right in. When the 6.5g ran out, I anchored, and in about 3 minutes had the line reconnected to the main tank, and was one my way again. Really doesn't get any easier then that.
