Re: Hoosier people check in

Except for the loss of life and property everything is going pretty smoothly. All the emergency people ( firefighter, EMT's, police, sheriffs, etc) worked together very well. No showboating or trying to best the others. Power has been restored to all but about 3-5000 customers. That should be on in the next day maybe two. Hit about 3 miles east of me. All the people that needed help got it immediately. They are either in hotels paid for by the Red Cross or donated by the hotel or with family members or friends. School has been cancelled the last couple of days because of lack of power and transportation problems. Curfew in the areas is 7pm until dawn. It has been observed voluntarily and has worked quite well. There has not been one incident of looting. Wallets and billfolds have been found by individuals and returned to the owners with everything still in them. People are not blaming the government or screaming about when their FEMA checks will get here. It is just a great tribute to the people's attitude and values in the Midwest. I feel that people are the same all over the U.S. but some get caught up in the media or peer pressure and start screaming me first. There are great folks everywhere as proven by this site that care for others that they don't even know. All is well and the only thing that the people that have been displaced need is another permanent place to live and the prayers of others. Thanks for caring.

I am glad to hear all is going well with the clean up effort and I hope that 22 will be the top number of those who have died.

A big thumbs up to the rescue people out there, "Just keep on keeping on".

Horrific event, loss of life is ALWAYS devastating. But reports say actual property damage was very localized, not wide spread as could have been with this type of weather event. Good to hear the recovery and clean up is going well. All involved deserve a heart felt thanks.

Re: Hoosier people check in

The families of the 22 have been literally overwhelmed with support. The local donations of cash and aid that has snowballed to them is like nothing I have ever seen. It won't bring them back but at least these families will not have to worry about doing without. The offers of money, food, dwellings, and jobs has been tremendous. I believe that it is a whole lot easier to take care of people in a local disater such as this than in a widespread one like Katrina. Other than the epic scale the difference is that the people here recieve little or no warning. No such thing as a three day warning to get out. When it hits in the dead of night it even more deadly. Just glad it wasn't worse than it was.
