Horsepower Question

Guys, I have a 1992 Evinrude 60 HP 60TENE. What would it take to bump it up to 70 HP. It has enough power for the fishing side, just want to be able to pull a tube, kneeboard and small skier (Grandsons). I love the boat(1992 16FT. Nitro) but it is only rated for 60HP max. I am sure it can handle more, just can't insure it or fish Tourneys if I go bigger. I got a good deal on it so I would rather not sell it and start over.

Any suggestions?

Re: Horsepower Question

You will not notice a big change by going from a 60 to a 70. Borrow a lower pitch prop and try it pulling tubes Trade off top speed for more pulling power. Just don't prop so low you over rev the engine at WOT while pulling. A fishing prop and a skiing prop is not a bad idea as you will then have a spare if one becomes damaged. Unless you are going to both fish and pull tubes on the same day prop changes are no big deal. Plus changing the prop one or two times a month will keep it from freezing on the shaft when the day comes that you have to take it off :)

Re: Horsepower Question

Great idea! I currently have a 17. Would I just go down one step to a 15?
