In what year did outboard motors become prop rated instead of fly wheel rated?

They didn't all change at the same time but by the mid-late 80's, all had switched.<br /><br />c/6<br /><br />Hooty

mike the mercuray i know was rated different .they wer faster . i compared the specks on the 20 hp. merc to johnson .the merc 20 had the same bor & stroke as a 25 johnson but rated it as 20 . that was in the early 70s. papasage............................................................................................
