Hose goes nowhere.

I have a 1999 V.P. 5.0GI PEFS. I was looking to replace the PCV valve as mentioned in the manual and found it on the Port side valve cover. On the starboard side valve cover there is an "elbow" that fits into the cover thru a large grommet. This elbow is part no. 3852104. In my engine it has a 8-10 inch piece of black rubber tubing connected to it and it goes nowhere, just lying there. It has markings on it that seem to show that a clamp was once there at the disconnected end. Here's a link to the V.P. drawing showing the elbow and grommet as Nos 20 and 24. No tubing is shown. I can't find anyplace that will accept this tube. It's been running like this for two seasons plus whatever the P.O. did. Any ideas? I hope I am not hurting something.

Re: Hose goes nowhere.

BILLDON, as far as running it like that, the idea behind the fitting is crankcase ventilation but not limited to just Positive crankcase ventilation as in Automotive applications where the fitting is also a PCV Posivite Crankcase Ventilation valve. The hose is there to direct any fumes and such to be sucked back into the engine via the Flame Arrestor. The engine will run ok without the hose but I would expect some extra smelly fumes would be noticed in the engine compartment, smelly-ness relative to the age of the engine.

In the drawing Jerry posted the hose is part# 26, and the way the fitting works is it stops just short of the flame arrestor element, and the engine's draw thru the element is what coaxes any vented fumes into the A/F mix and burned.
