hot breaks in water

Most of the time the water seems to be down along hill and the trailer breaks get very hot. So how long if any do you wait for them to cool down?

I have never thought about it and never done it. I just have always backed my trailer into the water. Of course when it is raining, and I hit a puddle, I only pump my brakes, I never worry about them either.

Welcome to the forum!!
You should allow your hubs to cool off for 15-30 minutes prior to popping them in the water. This will help your brakes last longer as well as reduce water intrusion into the bearings. When a hot spindle cools off it contracts and sucks water into it. You may already do this by stopping the trailer, taking stuff from the tow vehicle to the boat, fixing the dock lines, removing the transom saver, unhooking and storing the transom tie downs, unplugging the trailer lights, putting in the plug, putting in the plug, putting in the plug, etc.
It's always worth putting in the plug 3 times just to be sure!

When a hot spindle cools off it contracts and sucks water into it.

This is for the most part an urban legend.

In order to get a Delta T on the spindle high enough to cause a problem with the fit of the seal you would have a lot of other more serious problems to deal with.
