hot captians call exhaust

I have a 1996 bravo 454 EFImag with 385 hp and 74 hrs. I ran engine with ear muffs to dewinterize engine fo 15 or so minutes. I recall seeing water comming from exhaust pipes but in looking further i noticed one side of the exhaust got hot in the engine bay it had a very tarnished look. I know little to nothing about the problem but it is my understanding that neither pipe should never get too hot to touch.....this did. the other side still shines like chrome. Pleas help. Thank you.
