Hot exhaust elbow

Long time lurker first time poster. The front side of my exhaust elbow gets a lot hotter than the back side. I think my temp. is running normal( 150?) when I say hotter I mean I can still touch the elbow but it's definitely hotter than the back. Is this normal? Thanks

im thinking infront of the elbow you are contacting the outer water jacket but behind is mixed exhaust gas & water? I would think is normal but hard to say by feel...
