Hot rod or upgrade my boat? UPDATE!

This is a real tough one for me!

I have had several classic cars over the past few years, but I never got attached to any and always sold them for a good profit! I would like to have a nice car to keep for awhile.

I also would like to upgrade my boat to a 20 footer with at least A 200 Merc.

Neither of these do I actually need, as a matter of fact, I like the boat I have pretty well now that I have it running good.

Now, the car in question!

This car belongs to my son and I have done a fair amount of the work on the car.

Its a 1967 Chevelle, not an SS, but has all the SS stuff, (Hood etc), without the badges. Its a light metalic Powder blue, has a 350 crate engine, unknown HP, Small lumpy cam, SS interior, 12 bolt rear W/370s, 4 Sp, 8" Corvette ralleys, Disk brakes, Power steering, Very rust free car. Its lowered 2" in the front, and about 1" in the rear and the stance is perfect.

Needs:

Door panels, a headliner and a nice exhaust. Neither of these are really bad but they need to be done to make this car better.

Things I would do:

All of the above, Black Vinyl top, add Power to the brakes, Disk brakes in the rear, set of 17" American Torque thrusters and a bunch of detail work.

Sorry, no pictures at this time.

Buy the rod. Three reasons: 1) it sounds like it is pretty cherry for a resto, 2) rods go up in value every year, 3) larger/nicer/shinier boats will always be on the market.

You got a sweet boat now, time to spread the wings and get a sweet ride.

I was just next to an old shot rod yesterday. The smell of the transoil leaking onto the headers brought back memories. I really miss the sound of a 4 bbl carb kicking in. :(

Ken

Thats something else I would likely do, I have always liked either tri-power, or dual fours. People say that the economy is awefull, but not really if you keep your foot out of it, But what fun is that?

In the future, maybe a 5 or 6 speed trans.

I voted for the boat because the car is already in the family . . . Is son lettin' it go? Could be a flaw in my plan . . . :D

Go for the rod. Add the tri- power and kick the south end of a horse going north. Other words kick a**.

Ya, he came to me first, I dont know why he wants to sell it, he wont say, he is kind of a secretive type. Im sure he has something in his mind, he never does much with out a plan!

Im leaning towards the car right now, as I can put a couple thousand into it and make it a $25,000.00 car. Im figuring I can get it from him for around $12-15,000.00. He doesnt have the ability to clean up a car like I do. Im thinking that he wants to give me a good deal on the car for all the work I have done for him in the past. Kinda his way of saying thanks, and he "Really does owe me"!!!!!!!!!!!

If memory serves :D When they were new, a GTO with a 4-barrel would usually beat a GTO with 3-deuces. I don't remember seeing a Chevelle with 3-deuces, but dual-quads yes. Kind of fun to see the old guys driving kid cars, just because they can

Just saw an ad in the back of the latest Car Craft for a new easy style tri-power setup using demon carbs for the SBC. Included some cool linkage that didnt need adjustment.

6 speeds are great. Get one from a wrecked 93 up Camaro and you are set.

Ken

I do not know your situation.

My priorities are, 1 through 3. #4. is always-LAST! If you have 1-3 covered, go for both.

1. Family

2. Children-education.

3. Wife.

4. Me-boats, cars, etc.

Ahhh, hot rods and bass boats... Never before have there been two creations better designed from conception for which to shovel an endless flow of money into. :D

Neither are ever fast enough, nor are you ever "really"" finished modifying them.

I say hot rod your boat. ;)

spots
