hot water from pump

A few days ago I started my Johnson 115 for the first time this season. After a several minutes of good operation, I noticed that the water from the pump had stopped spitting out the back end. Tried again yesterday and water was being pumped out the back of the motor, but after a while the water increased in temperature to a point where the HOT lamp lights. Is it possible that there is some blockage in the line causing reduced flow. The whole engine was overhauled last year. How can I verify that the water pump and related components are working properly or narrow down the issue.

Thanks

Re: hot water from pump

first follow the tale tell hose to the block, remove it and make sure the hose is clear, (kritters, like to live there in the winter). if you do not have a good tale tell stream, the impeller is not pumping. just because you have a tale tell stream, does not mean the thermostats are opening and cooling the motor.
