So I am going to replace my hot water heater..... I do not have the lines that run from the engine to heat the water when I do not have shore power hooked up.... my question is which lines do I run to the heat exchanger so I can have hot water from the engine?
Thanks

Mine ran from a port on the thermostat housing and a tee connection on the large 2" water pump engine hose.

This way Water heater.jpg

Depending on which motor you have there are variations

In this case and having closed cooling (assuming front mount HE) your left with the one above. The variations are for open cooling and big blocks
Sorry if forgot to include that ..... I have raw water cooling...

My bad also, took your mention of "heat exchanger" as on the motor, not the WH.

In this case, what I will say is this is how Formula does it. My boat was done this way.

The supply (going into the WH) must still come from the fitting at the water pump, the return can go back to the engine drain plug. Then when its winterize you remove the hose at the block side, so it drains the block (on that side) and the WH. Again do not exceed 5/8 ID hose for which ever setup you use.

Ayuh,.... That's backwards AD,.....

The circulatin' water pump creates the low pressure point, 'n pressurizes the block,....

I "Think" the '98 Vortec has a 1/2" pipe port in the intake manifold, just before the t-stat, which is the hottest water in the motor,....
A hose nipple can be installed there for the supply,....
I also "Think" there's a 1/2" pipe plug in the body of the circulatin' water pump to put a nipple in for the return water from the appliance,...
