I have a strange thing happening with my boat, It is a 1991 Thompson 260L Fisherman Hardtop, with twin 4.3 Mercruisers. The boat, Engines and outdrives work great, and my hour meters keep time quite accurately, but if I run the engines out of the water, like in my driveway with ear muff's, the hour meters add time very rapidly, like 15 hrs. after only 5 min's of run time, Any ideas ??

Since the boat has more vibs out of the water Id replace the meter. Dont know what brand you have but some have warranty to 2000 hours.

Re: Hour Meter Malfunction

The hourmeter SHOULD work on the ignition wire. If the switch is on the time is running. Are you sure you didn't just leave the switch on during repairs or winterizing?
Has nothing to do with in or out of the water,
Are you sure your hour meter is hooked to the purple wire (ignition side) of the switch and not to the battery side so you get power to the hourmeter when the battery switch is turned on

Did you say BOTH hour meters run fast? Did this just start, or has it always been a problem?
