Hour meter wiring

I bought an hour meter 2-3 years ago and asked the fellow who works on my boat to hook it up which he never did, needless to say the instructions are long gone. It has two wires, I have a Yamaha 150 prov, the wiring harness is a big mess of wires in the center consol. Any suggestions as to where I should make the connections.

Having read some of the posts I am thinking off the key switch and just meter the hours the key is on? Anything better?

Thanks

Re: Hour meter wiring

This is a simple installation. Every gauge on your dash has a +12V and Ground connection on it. The +12V connection on each gauge is active only when the key is on. Connect the + wire to the +12V terminal on any gauge. Connect the ground wire to any ground terminal or the ground buss on the fuse/circuit breaker panel. Be aware that there is no way to make that meter work only when the engine is running. It will count hours as long as the key is in the RUN position even if the engine isn't running -- such as in the case where the engine stalls and you forget to turn the key off.
