hour meter

hello all!
just bought a 2001 VIP w/3.0 mercruiser-dealer told me it had 150 hours on it-yet i dont see any hour meter on the dash, and i have looked on the engine-------i just dont see where that figure of 150 came from.
does anyone know where an hour meter is on the 2001 3.0 mercruiser?

dealer probably did a calculation / 25hrs a year on a boat that is 6 yrs old equals 150 hrs. that is if no visible gauge on boat...

It is just like all those old outboards that only have 10 hours on them. Yeah, right!

25 hours average per year? I'm a newbie, but that does not seem like a lot of hours in a season.
I assume that a motor hour is 60 minutes of run time, start to finish.

Does an hour get calculated differently if a meter is on the boat?

In my boat, if you open the engine compartment it is mounted on the starboard side. It is actually attached to the top of the engine compartment, or below the sundeck. You have to bend over or kneel down to see it.

Why not just call the dealer and ask him where he got the number?

On my 1999 Mercruiser 7.4 MPI, I can plug in to the diagnostics connector with a Mercruiser scan tool, and it tells me the hours on the engine. It gives you actual running hours, and not "key on" hours which is kinda nice. Maybe yours has this connector?
