Re: Hours Question?

Id concider that a mid time engine. Dont know which engine you have but a slight rattle at the back is normally the exhaust shutter and is normal.

If it has gone that far, it will probably go allot farther.

Lack of maintenance kills marine engines, usually not run time.

Re: Hours Question?

Usually people point out that engine hours dont usually mean much, rather whats important is the condition of the engine. I recently bought A boat and after doing A test ride and mechanical survey have decided that the time and money I spent on doing both of those was well worth it.

Re: Hours Question?

I believe its A 120 hp merc motor.I have A 77 marlin omc 4 cylinder witch I belive is the same motor and my motor doesnt have that rattle to it. The boat I have is more of an ocean boat and this one that I am looking at is A lake boat. (open bow)
Runs great.Oil pressure at 40, temp at 160 just A slight rattle at around 3000 rpms and above. Can someone also give me A round about blue book value.
16 foot marlin 4 cylinder merc with alpha 1 out drive and bimi top open bow. They want 4k for the boat witch I think is A little high. Dont know the model of the boat just says marlin on the pink slip nothing on the boat either. No decals ..Thanks again

Re: Hours Question?

I have a GM 307 with over 1500 hours on it, compression is still good and runs like a champ. Its all in the maintainance. Its better to have them run often than sitting in garages for years at a time.

Re: Hours Question?

Thannks for the info. It ran good and oil and water temp was all normal but it had A ticking noise coming from the motor I was just wondering if that was normal or not. 1984 marlin satellite 16 ft 3.0 merc inline 4 cylinder with alpha 1 outdrive
