I'm trying to desing a pontoon based houseboat. Would appreciate advice on several topics.
General plan: 8'x36 foot on land expanding to 14'x36' on water. Cabin 7'7" x 24 '. Cabin should weigh 2800 lbs. Total live load expected to be 4500 lbs inc. cabin, pontoons, motor etc.

What size pontoons 17" or 26" ?
What Size motor?

Thanks for any and all help.

Re: Houseboat Design Help

I dont have a clue but 17" pontoons would be usless.
Your sure not going to push it very fast you will need only enough power to make it handle safely.
If your going to expand the whole thing to 14ft.
sounds like a lot of expense and complication.
How about a couple of pop outs like a park trailer.I think it would be much easier to deal with and still pretty effective.
There used to be a massive house boat here that
they pushed around with a power boat. That way they could place it and still have a boat to mess around with. You could do something like that and
still have a boat to ski, cruise or fish with.
