I am asking this out of curiosity. First off I want to say I wanted the Astros to win more than most would think. I am one of those Wisconsinites who hates all that is Chicago and Illinois with a passion.

The news around here portrays the Houston fan base as being wimps.....because of the not going after that foul ball and disrupting the white sox player, and because of the whole its too cold to open the stadium stuff. How is it portrayed in your neck of the woods??? I am curious as to how the sports media may have turned this.

Re: Houston Fans

BTW, Texans and Astro fans et al. My condolences. I was conflicted on this one. I almost always cheer for the National League in the World Series and I was especially interested in seeing Biggio and Bagwell win one (at least they got to play in one). My mom now lives in Chicago, so I felt some allegiance there too. It was a close series despite the sweep and I though the Astros were classy all of the way. My .02

Re: Houston Fans

I didn't hear that the Houston fans were being blamed for anything. Around here, they are too busy trumpeting the Sox. Which is really funny, because all you ever hear about are the cubs. So at least I can make fun of cub fans some more.
Quietcat, you mom in Chi town is not a Sox fan, they are all cubs fans, only jumping on the bandwagon this year.

Yup! My stepfather loves the game though and has always followed the Sox too. Nothing like he follows the Cubs. In fact I am wearing a Cub hat right now come to think of it . . . kinda weird.

I would rather lose with class, than win with "questionable" tactics.

As far as the roof, there was guidelines the team followed. Why should we adjust those guidelines just because of the World Series? Remember, we used to play in the Astrodome, which always had the roof closed.

Yes, we are wimps, we live in Houston cause we hate the cold. :D

Houston is the only city in the nation that I could promise they wouldnt riot if we won a major sporting event.

When the Houston Rockets won, the only thing that happened was some beer was stolen.

Ken

Hey Pony shouldn't you be more concerned with your mighty Packers right now rather than worrying about the Astros... BWHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

BTW, I'm one of those Illinois people who'd just love to come up there passionately adjust your attitude towards your neighbors to the south. :p

McGR- I meant certain types of people, not all people from Illinois. In termas of sports teams, then yeah I hate them all because thats how i was brought up.

It wasn't a direct shot or anything at Astros fans, I was simply asking how those events were being portrayed in their media. I wanted to see if it was different than how I am seeing it here. For the record I never called them wimps, i was referring to what I had heard in the media

Pony - I found your original blanket statement quite offensive. However, I do understand the sterotype of Chicago/Illinois tourist that many Wisconsinites have. We have many more people down here than you do. Unfortunately, this means we have many more jerks also, many who leave lasting impresssions in their travels north. As you said, there probably are "certain types" from down here we all could do without. Hopefully, most folks north of here realize that the our whole state is not comprised of wealthy, obnioxious, disrespectful, condesending idiots speeding along I 90/94 on their way to the Dells. I spend considerable time "up north" and always try to be as respectful as possible as guest of your state.

I hate your teams too... yep, that's just the way it is - GO Bears!

BTW, I apologize for my earlier angry remarks.

Re: Houston Fans

I apologize for my original blanket statment. I assure you I didnt mean any harm by it, it was more of a joke than anything else. I'm sure most people up here realize that btw, and I understand not everyone is like that, just as I'm sure there are just as many jerks up here.

The certain types that I think of come from this example the last few years. I go to my uncles place up about 35miles north of minoqua, and he lives a small lake. less than 300 acres. its very small. The last 5-6 springs the people across the lake (only there 2-3 weeks a year) have gooten upset about the spring thaw water levels being high enough to get on their lawn. they then proceed to blast the beaver dams and the lake drops to the point where crappies havent spawned in awhile. I always happen to be up when they are and they are constantly buzzing within 10 feet of me on jet skis or skiing until dark, which is well past the allowed limit, while we are trying to fish....soory for the rant

Again sorry for the blanket statement. like i said it wasnt meant to be that serious and i was mostly refering to sports teams like the Bears.....who will probably finish in first this year with that defense

Re: Houston Fans

None of the fans in that section even had a ball glove - what's up with that? Seats in prime foul ball territory, nobody with a landing net either? That wouldn't have been an out if I'd been in a position to reach the ball - with respect KIZ, nothing questionable about a fan catching a foul ball in the stands.

Also a crowd can generate a lot more noise with the roof closed.

Pony, maybe I can make McGR mad too...

Chicago is Chicago, not Illinois. The rest of the state is what Illinois is all about, corn & soybeans. Not "jerks" on vacation! :D

All in fun fellas!

Re: Houston Fans

If you look at the picture, people were going for the ball, but it just so happened that the ball went into an aisle, not into the seats.

Yes, I agree the roof should have been closed cause that is the Astros policy, anything below a certain temp (70???), they close the roof.

The stupid thing is that the noise is probably just as distracting to the home team as it is to the away team.

Ken
