How are boats built, as far as bilge is concerned?

OK, maybe a stupid, basic question, but how is a boat actually designed as far as the bilge area is concerned? It seems to me that my 19' bowrider has a bilge area that's sealed off from the rest of the boat and is basically just a place to collect water that enters the boat from the top. Unless I haven't looked close enough, shouldn't the bilge area be the lowest point in the boat where the entire boat (even under the floor) drains to???

Every boat is built different. Unfortunately boat Mfgr's do not include any blue prints when the sell the boat. Some one with some experience may be able to make certain reasonable assumptions re what it's like below your floor. Pictures would help.

Not sure about your question re the bilge. The floor of the bilge is the same level as the inside of the hull everywhere else. As far as I know, manufacturers do not provide for drainage from the foamed parts, below the floor.

er, check out the boat restoration part of this forum, think ya should be able to find pics of boats without floors. gave me a idea how theys made. sounds like it's a educated guess as to how any perticular one is made till the floor is up though, jim
