Re: how badly beat should the propellar be before you replace it??
Got some minor chips out of propellar blades, how beat up up should you let the propellar get before replacing it??? any one sign the should tell you to get a new one?
Propellers aren't typically considered wear items that are meant to be beaten up till they won't move the boat anymore. A damaged propeller is serious business. Unless the damage done is more or less superficial, you could be doing damage to the rest of your lower unit or drive line by running with a busted up prop.
My suggestion is to price out what a matching new one costs, and also take yours to a prop repair shop to see what they would estimate the repair costs to be (bet it would be cheaper than a new one if a new one is available). If you are tight on money, then go with what ever is the cheapest option (new or repair). If you have a little extra cash, get the new prop, and also have your old one repaired to keep on board as a spare in case something happens to the new one while you're out in the drink.
