Is there a way at the motor to make the trim/tilt go up and down? I have a feeling my switch at the front is bad? How would you jump it?

If you post the year and HP of the motor we will be able to describe how to jumper it.

Dont know if my attachment will work. Anyway there are three solenoids. The top one should be up. Jump from the red wire across to the blue wire and trim should go up. Middle solenoid, jump from red to green and trim should go down. Bottom solenoid is for starter.

OK, You need to jumper the solenoids that power the trim/tilt motor. If that motor has a PTT unit that fits between the transom brackets, the solenoids are mounted under the motor cowling. If that motor has the trim pump in the boat, the solenoids are mounted on the trim motor bracket. Each trim solenoid will have a heavy battery cable, and heavy power cable that runs to the trim motor, and a thinner wire colored blue/white or green/white. Jumper from the red battery cable to the blue/white wire and the motor should trim up. jumper from the red battery cable to the green/white wire and the motor should trim down.

Re: How can i check to see if tilt/trim works?

Thanks for the info Chris.. I did that and there is nothing coming from the pump!! I guess the motor is shot!!! If it was sitting for 2 years could it just be locked up? Can you open the motor and clean it? Or do you just replace the motor?

An other thing is I can not get the motor up now to take the trim motor off, The plastic screw/ on the right side i was told to lossen that,Well I think if I crank on that its going to break...

Soo once i get the motor up somehow, would you just replace the trim motor?

Thanks for all you help..This site is soo great!!

I am not sure how you will be able to get the motor to go up. You may be able to unbolt the PTT unit from the transom bracket and lift the LU and the whole PTT unit will rise. I would disconnect the wiring, since I think it will be too short to allow this. Alternatively, you will need to remove the motor from the boat and get to the motor from the boat-side of the motor.

Arco likely makes a replacement motor. I would at least open up the motor and clean and test the windings for shorts. Watch for a bi-metal overload. Your model may have one, and they do get corroded.

Wilson, I f you can get the motor to tilt up, you should be able to remove the entire PTT unit(bolts and a pin and locking pin). However, you stated that you could not get it up. I simply gave some advise based upon that.

Ok i got the whole tilt trim unit off.. I took off the motor for the tilt /trim.. What do i take off next to see what the inside looks like? The screws at the top? Or the allen bolts ?

I found a new one on ebay going for about $375.00 Was looking for one cheaper then that!!!
