I have tried looking through Wellcrafts website but it just gives generic information. My title does not give this detail and I even called a Wellcraft dealer and they didn't know what to tell me. AM I going to have to go and weight it at a weigh station??

I have no idea what year your 170 is, but here is the breakdown for a 1988 model.

■Wellcraft - 170 Classic
Wellcraft?s newest sportboat, this roomy 17-footer is not only fun, but affordable. Standard features include a built-in ice chest in the bow, hidden ski and top storage areas, a teak dive platform and an AM/FM stereo. And you can choose between an I/O or an outboard. Length: 16 ?9"; Weight: 1,950 lbs. (1/0), 1,100 lbs. (O/B); Max. HP: 130 (I/O), 135 (O/B)

I have an 89. SO boat + engine = 1950 LBS?? That's great news for me then. I thought it was going to be much heavier. Thanks for posting this info. I tried to get the NADA website to work when I was locating this detail but it wouldn't work for me.

Most fishing boats can be weighed on a bathroom scale using the following method: First, make a "T" from 2 x 4 or 2 x 6, etc scrap to support the trailer tongue on the scale at a height fairly close to level. Weigh the tongue and record the weight in pounds, kg, etc. Mark the back of the boat on the trailer so you have a reference where it normally sits. Now slide the boat back on the trailer about 12 to 18 inches. Measure exactly how much you moved the boat back and write this down. Now weigh the tongue again in exactly the same place as before and record that weight. Now measure from the center of the axle pivot to the center point the scale T contacts the trailer. The boat weight is the difference in the two weights divided by the distance slid back on the trailer, multiplied by the distance from the axle pivot to the place the T contacts the trailer tongue.

My boat stats: first weight 214 pounds, slid back 15.875 inches. Second weight 134 pounds. Distance from axle pivot to weight point on tongue 170.0 inches. Difference in weights 80 pounds. 80/15.875x170=856.7 pounds.

Your Wellcraft dealer is a dope. All the info you need is right on their website. Click on 'Resources', then scroll to the bottom of the page. Product Information and Owners Manuals are available going back to 1985.

Your boat weighs either 1950 (I/O) or 1100 (OB).

Wow there it is! The dealer is a dope. When I was looking on Wellcrafts website before I was looking in the owners manual section. I never dreamed they would list info for older boats there. Figured that was for new product lines. So I guess I am kind of a dope too!! LOL Thanks for this info.

Keep in mind the outboard weight is without the motor.
