How can I tell if a DP-SM will fit where my SX-M once was?

Hopefully this is a simple question - I have the serial no and prod no for the DP-SM, and noticed that it has the same ratio as my SX (1.78), but where can I go to see if it fits the same space as my SX-M?

The upper gear cases are the same. You can replace the complete outdrive if you want, but all that is necessary is to replace the lower unit with one of the proper gear ratio. Not the same as an SX.

Excellent news. And thanks for the quick response. Since I'm buying as a complete unit, upper and lower, is there anything I need to know about bolting the new unit up to the boat - any shimming, seals, or waterproofing kits I need to get as well? Or anything else a novice needs to know?

i just did this 3 months ago as i said in the pm
the dp-sm was a direct bolt on when changed from a sx
i have a 5.0 gl-e and my gear ratio is 1 to 1.95
just watch your wot rpms
i had to buy two different sets of props
the first set my rpms were only 4100 whitch is to low for my engine
now im at 4550 whitch is perfect

You do need to check the alignment to make sure it's where it should be, and be sure to grease the splines. Replace the seal ring around the water passage, and new orings on the splined shaft. Make sure the shift cable is adjusted properly so it goes all the way into both forward and reverse.
You can go to the link below and download an owners manual for your engine and drive.

Thanks. I will invest in the right seal rings and orings. Now for the tough question, and Saintlee, you hit on it. How to select the proper props for this set up? I am at 5290 ft in altitude, and so are most of the lakes I run on. Is there a matrix that will help to dial in the proper prop pitch based on engine hp, drive ratio, and altitude?

Sorry - is this what is meant by hijacking a thread?
