How can I tell the Number of Engine Hours?

I have a 1993 Cruisers 2670 with a 7.4L Mercruiser. When I bought it a few years ago in Green Bay, WI the owner said it only had 190 hours on it. I can't find an hour meter. Is there a way to see the number of hours on the engine?

Thanks
Dave

Did you look in the engine compartment really good? I have saw a couple boats with the hour meter mounted in the engine compartment somewhere.

Ayuh,... Some of the newer Merc 'puters will have that info,..
But for the rest of Us,...
A Compression, 'n leak-down test, along with the oil pressure usually is the Best indicators of the overall motor's Health...

Hours don't mean much,... Quality regular Maintenance is what counts...

If you can get a Mercrury/Mercruiser mechanic, he should have the scanner/code reader to hook to the engines computer. It will tell you the engine hours and if there were any significant faults that tripped codes.
