How would you connect a fuel pressure test gauge to test a low volume Carter fuel pump? Its connected to the carb with a steel line. I don't think I want to cut that line in order to hook up the test gauge. The connection at the pump is a compression fitting. Am I going to have to rig something with hoses and clamps and a tee?

Yes. I removed the connection at the carb, and rigged fuel line hose off the flared end of fuel line, a T, and a standard fuel line (auto) connection at the carb.

Would it be a bad idea to cut the existing steel fuel line to install a compression tee for the pressure gauge? Then just cap the tee after testing? I know it introduces a couple more places for chances of leaking, but its a low pressure line anyway, right? Wrong?

That's why I would not suggest it myself.

The better idea is to make a tee type of fitting that you can install between the line and the carb that you can remove after testing. Keep it in your tool box and you will always have it when needed.
