How do I add a kill switch?

The previous owner never installed a kill switch. Since i'm installing my 73 115hp Johnson rebuilt powerhead, I thought that I'd go ahead and put in one.

I noticed at the store that one of these switches had three terminals, what is the best way to wire these things up?

One is a laynard and one is a neutral. What is the difference? Is the laynard the kill switch that you attach to the driver?

Basically to 'kill' the engine you connect that black/yellow wire to ground. There are aftermarket teather switches with 4 terminals. Two of them close the circuit when the teather is off .These are the two you want. (the other two open the circuit, and would keep the motor from starting)

As an aside,OMC used to have an add on kit that would mechanically turn the key off when the teather was pulled.

The lanyard is the kill switch...A friend of mine used to tie a small rope to the shift/throttle lever and then clipped it to his belt just in case he went overboard. At least it would return to idle if not neutral...Never found out if it worked or not.......
