Hi all,

Newby here but this forum has been very helpful so far as I am fairly new to boating as well. I recently purchased a 1995 bayliner 1950 in fair shape (needs some work, mostly cosmetic). Took the boat out on the water today and everything went well. I have no idea when the boat last had the oil changed so I would like to change it. Can someone explain the best way to drain the oil? Also, is there anything else that I should do immediately as I have no idea when the boat was last serviced?

Your help is appreciated.

Your local marine shop will have a manual pump for that purpose, with a long hose connected to it. You insert the hose into the dipstick hole until it bottoms, and start pumping into a pail or some such. (Boat and engine level.) When nothing more comes out, she's empty. Then you replace the filter and fill with Mfr recommended oil, and you're done.

If I'm not mistaken, you may find such a pump setup at an auto part store as well. I've seen them on-line too.

You will also want to change the lube in your drive, inspect the bellows, check alignment of the eng, wile you have the drive off give look at the gimbal bearing and ujoints.

One last thing the impeller is biggie they are a maintenance item that is its not if but when is I going to fail.
