I crossed wired the battery to the cables about a month ago, on the pre-season checkup. Changed the wires immmedately and engine starts and runs fine. However no charging action. It charged when put away in Nov 06. I figure I burnt out the rectifier. Also, I lost my service manual over the winter and just need a nudge on a diagram and where to get the part. I have ordered a new (used) manual..just need a little assist meanwhile.

Thx

doesn't your engine have a generator, no rectifier, voltage regulator is in the connection box.

That is correct, there is no rectifier in your 40hp with a DC generator. Check the 4 amp fuse in the junction box. Also, now I am trying to decide in my mind if maybe you will have to re-polarize the generator, or if it might have cooked the regulator. Whatever, the first thing to check is the 4A fuse. It won't harm anything to polarize the generator, maybe best to do it just in case.

You do know that the motor has to be running about 2000 rpm for the gen to work, don't you?
